The colorful life of Eddie Ross, Here comes the sunshine take 2

Eddie Ross… where to start?!  The talented East Coast editor of Home and Gardens Magazine brightens any space he enters with his sweet personality, down to earth demeanor, boyish smile and tremendous talent.  He can bring light and color in a masterful way to any room using things we own in combination with family treasures and some very affordable Salvation Army or Goodwill pieces.  His spaces are definitely unique, bright and so darned positive that they can chase the blues away out of any heart in the world.

And now, with his new book, written in collaboration with his handsome partner Jaithan Kochar, he is on a mission to help us do just that on our own.

I find myself looking at old images of his work and realizing it has a certain timeless quality to it!

modernmixeddierossarchdigest.jpg

There was no chance in hell I wasn’t going to include next picture, a tablescape he did in collaboration with Bunny Williams for Christmas!  People at this point might be sick of Christmas Decor, but this is so fresh and creative that nobody could tired of it, even after the holidays.  What an honor to work with Ms. Williams, she is one of the best and most respected decorators in the world and a wonderful and down to earth person as well. I can only imagine how Eddie must have felt working with her, I would have cried. Yes, right there and then, burst into tears!  Not just because of how talented she is but because she is a very real and classy lady who is unaffected and unimpressed with all the fluffies (is that even a word, or I just invented one?!) and pretentious stuff that comes often with the lifestyle of famous and top interior designers.   I could spend hours and hours listening and talking to her, it must have been a rare and delicious treat!  Nothing more on Bunny because of course, I’m going to have a post on her, and even if I try very hard,  I won’t be able to begin to scratch the surface of her contribution to the world of design and her fabulous work. These posts are such a treat to me, to revisit the work of all those incredible people… Priceless.

Eddie Ross and Bunny Williams.jpg

What a joyful table…. I can’t stop staring.  Tabletop fabric by Bunny Williams for Lee Jofa, the inspiration for the whole tablescape.

BW_holiday_table_12.jpg

Eddie used his own antique English salad plates with  Bunny’s Gold Star collection  and his French Opaline Goblets. I love those who are not afraid of change and experimentation, opening new ways in any field and widening our horizons!

FLagnese_BWilliams_112415_82365-1080x675.jpg

Notice how nicely combined the flatware is with Eddie’s own vintage silver and Bunny’s Paris Flea Market collection

How gorgeous those salt cellars and shakers are as well as that pepper mill?!  It is in the little details, I’m telling you… I always say the same thing! Well, not just me, everybody.

modern-mix-eddie-ross-2-800x488.png

I believe this is from the book and makes me just so happy to look at it, you must order the book!  After so many years of whites, browns and grays -which I ADORE-  we really need help to bring color back into our lives and this book will do it. Imagine this: Bunny Williams did the foreword. It means the book is smashing beautiful and perfectly illustrated! Every review I read is calling it: The BEST.   You can order it here:   eddieross.com/modern-mix

This is my first time including links!!! hooray !  Go me!  I hope they work because they make me feel so professional and stuff….  I apologize for any infringements with the authors of anything. If I need to remove something I sadly…not gladly… would do so!  I know, but I’m not going to lie, I love everything here and don’t want to take anything away…

The colors and textures, the patterns and all the eclectic goodness going on here is such a treat, it has that collected through time look, that natural and effortless feel, so hard to obtain and it’s so unassuming that will make anybody want to stay forever…

I believe this is their guest room. I’m surprised of how restrained this room is in regards to color… that means they either compromised or Eddie can do neutrals with an accent color beautifully as well.  Of course he can!  I wouldn’t be surprised though if we find this room changed very soon, I can see orange curtains or at least the natural grasses roman shade painted orange or something like that!

EddieRossThanksgivingPHFTable.jpg

I am not a fan of the tablecloth colors and pattern but I can still enjoy the whole thing, I think the brass candleholders are lovely, and I am in love with that mirror!

That shows everybody that even things we think we don’t like can look beautiful with the right combination of elements. Very english garden and Art Deco vibes at the same time! Eddie Ross can make anything work but it takes an immense amount of skills and talent to do it so perfectly, and of course great taste and instincts.  I’m a big fan!

Eddie and his partner Jaithan Kochar.  I think Eddie looks so much like Derek Hough, from “Dancing with the Stars”  What do you think?!

What do you think?  Are you loving all the color coming back in our lives? How do you feel about brass? Too much too soon or are you young enough that you never got sick of it?

Have a great rest of the week!

What a beautiful couple, the way they stared at each other made me want to go back in time…

My computer died and needed a transplant! or How I met Sweet Pete’s

My beloved iMac needed surgery and just got a new hard drive.  Is that considered heart surgery for computers, or is it brain surgery?!   I don’t get it … Aren’t Apples supposed to be better than oranges in that respect? !  Aren’t they supposed to be above all that mundane suffering?!

Friendly and super cute! She stopped for the picture without hesitation or being asked!
Friendly and super cute! One of the girls working at Sweet Pete’s in Jacksonville, Florida.  She stopped for the picture without hesitation or even being asked!

Two or three months ago my computer started acting sluggish and it only got worse with time.  When we got to Florida, it pretty much stopped working, it was making these painful noises, like if it was struggling to breathe… I was heartbroken.  The last days have been frustrating, I had missed blogging and didn’t want to lose momentum. The fact that I was finally posting on a more regular basis (at least compared to my own self!) made me feel more confident and kind of hopeful for at least consistency, until I find my substance…

What a wonderful place to be!
What a wonderful place to be!

We have been dealing with The Geek Squad, she and I . Actually, she had to deal with them more than I ’cause she was the one who had to stay overnight in the Jacksonville store while I went back to St. Augustine.  To say that I was surprised to find out St Augustine didn’t have a Best Buy store is an understatement!  Who doesn’t have a Best Buy?!  Not that I like that store particularly. Actually, I don’t. But in this day and age, you can’t survive without an Apple store and one with a geek squad nearby, can you?!…  Well, I know! Jacksonville is nearby….I get it!  Who can survive without that kind of stores I asked?! Answer to self: Those who live with beautiful, white sandy beaches in their front and backyards and don’t want anything to ruin that!  That’s who! and that’s why I’m moving here!  Duh!  Because it reminds me of my absolutely beautiful city, Trujillo, in Peru, were I was born and where I grew up, the way the city was during my childhood…but that is a subject for another post!  PERU  (Where the heck is the accent wordpress people?!  -I know where the accent is. Don’t answer. I just don’t want to switch keyboards all the time)  Today I tried to use my computer with its brand new heart, or brain, or heart …whichever! only to realize it was still slow, but in a different way. It might have to do with the internet speed. Tomorrow I’ll have to call the  geek squad again and deal with those mundane maladies. ( The viruses, not the actual geeks!) Actually, the Geek Squad said it was the hard drive, no viruses.

Arriving to Sweet Pete's after a little struggle finding a parking space.
Arriving to Sweet Pete’s after a little struggle finding a parking space.
..
I walk to the corner to get a better angle.
...and there it was!
…and there it was!

The good news for me was that because I had to go to Jacksonville every day -only a 40 minute drive- I had plenty of opportunity to visit SWEET PETE’S, a one of a kind candy store that was featured in THE PROFIT (I like MARCUS LEMONIS! he seems to be a very nice guy)  It was one of my favorite episodes and I really, REALLY, despised the bad guy and I really, REALLY liked the good guy, PETE!

Almost there! I wanted to meet Pete, but more than anything, I wanted to meet the bad guy so I could make him an offer he couldn't refuse... at the same time I had the hope that they were able to get rid of such a negative and shady partner and that he wasn't going to be around anymore.

I had a great time taking pictures and admiring everything. What a great, happy and colorful place to be! full of old fashion hand made candy and joyful children young and old!!! That Sunday I was actually dropping family at the airport and had a really nice brunch there at Sweet Pete’s, all by my self, it was Father’s Day.  The only sad note was missing my husband with whom I spoke several times that day, and I was missing my dad… But I couldn’t do anything about that. I haven’t been able to do anything about that for almost four years in September.

Finally I was here!
Finally I was here! I wasn’t planning to come that day, but took advantage of the situation to make my bucket list shorter. My secondary bucket list. The one you make mentally as you go, while you watch a program, read an article or hear a conversation. “I have to make sure I visit that restaurant/store/museum/cafe/etc” Not the one where you have: “Dance a Tango with Al Pacino in the Oak Room” ( I cried when I learned it closed for good…)   “Have Breakfast at Tiffany’s”  (I don’t have the top of Mount Everest in mine. Hell no)
Dance a Tango with Al Pacino at The Oak Room....
Dance a Tango with Al Pacino at The Oak Room…. This was a moment in time, for sure.

… But there is always something special in all the little moments that conform our lives. I believe it is as I say at the beginning of this blog: “Life is all about the little moments and the little things”  Don’t you think so?… ( And I share mine, here, in my little Castle of Dreams..)
There is something about TV that make things more special. They become more than places. It's more about the people and the history behind it, than the places themselves.

On April 25, I had the pleasure of helping, a gorgeous couple from Florida, with their wedding flowers.  I flew to St. Augustine, the 21st and the flowers, arrived the 22nd in the morning.

beauty
It really does look like an Enchanted Garden!    It felt like Christmas,  opening the boxes full of blooms desperate for water after traveling all the way from Colombia, Ecuador and California.

Ana and Robert were surrounded by 80 of their closest friends and family, including two grandmas and a Great-Grandma!  This was the most important for them, to celebrate with the people who love them and whom they love.  The only ones who didn’t make it to the wedding, where their beloved pets, Baron and Luna, a couple of adorable British Bulldogs.  It would have been too much for them!

This is Luna! Is she something?! Look at Baron at the bottom of the picture!
This is Luna! Isn’t she something?! Look at Baron at the bottom of the picture!

Ana is this young, tiny and delicate girl in appearance, with an inner strength and intelligence beyond her years. Robert, on the other hand, is the perfect counterpart for her, tall, dark and handsome,  gorgeous smile, and a great dancer!  They are beautiful together.  I wish them much joy and I hope they never stop dancing, the way I saw them on their wedding day, glancing into each other’s eyes and smiling with their hearts.

I have patiently waited for the photographer’s pictures to be ready… I can’t wait any longer! When I get them I will definitely shared them, but now, the ones taken with my iphone by a very tired me, will have to suffice.

The Enchanted Garden? The Enchanted Garden Design and Flowers?…… Ayayay!  HELP. I really wanted to name it after this Blog. “Château des Rêves” that means “Castle of Dreams” in French, but  it is not that easy to remember…. I also really wanted to name it, simply: “Maria Teresa de Bracamonte Design and Flowers” or something of the sorts …. but again I’ve been advised against it, the reason being, because it would be hard to remember!   I wonder… People were able to remember the name “Barack Obama” right? What about Arnold Schwarzenegger and Oscar de la Renta?!  Is it that difficult to remember my maiden name María Teresa de Bracamonte?, it’s easy to me …

The bride and groom didn’t have a wedding party, nevertheless Ana wanted to give bouquets to a close group of family and friends

Fifty Shades of What?!

MARSALA

Gorgeous
Gorgeous

Marsala is the color of the year… Well, even though I like this shade very much, to me it gets too close to Radiant Orchid, Pantone’s 2014 seleccion.  Too close but not enough to be able to reuse the accessories of last year with the new shades or tints of the new one. To me last years Radiant Orchid was more in the cooler side, with blue undertones, this years Marsala is more in the warmer side, with earthy undertones like the wine from which it takes it’s name that comes from the surroundings of the Sicilian city of Marsala in Italy . (By the way,  I don’t think there is anything in the colder side in Italy! Everything seems to be warm and intense!)

I love this, I've been a fan of lacquered walls and rich tones for ever and that light fixture is awesome

I don’t follow fashion or trends at all, I enjoy them but they don’t dictate anything in my world, unless I happen to fall in love with one of them.  What I don’t understand is that they pick the colors too close to each other, in the same intensity…. I would rather have them pick something complementary or a tint or shade of the color, so regular people who follow these things can have a better opportunity to play with what they already have just adding the “new” color, creating richer environments with more layers and personality and cooler wardrobes . Well, I’m not color expert or anything close to that but for what is worth, this is my fifty cents in this matter 😉

I'm a little afraid.... it's still Marsala, right?
I’m a little afraid…. It’s still Marsala, right?

I’ve had many people asking me along the years why a particular color, even white, didn’t work with what they had at home or in their closet, when it seemed perfect at the store… Undertones!  I won’t get into that, there are too many blogs and too many experts that already do that brilliantly, just trying to give one more reason why the experts at Pantone should pick something complementary or analogous, with the same or compatible undertones, that will work together and in that way make life simpler for people that don’t know much about the intricacies of color but they do know something is not working and they don’t know why!   Probably I’m wrong but it’s just my humble opinion… Still, I think they should do that at least two years in a row…

These are gorgeous! They would make any woman feel like a queen.

The title in this post is Fifty shades of … because I wrote another one called  “The color Purple and it’s fifty shades” talking about last year’s pick.  I’d like to put a link here but I have no idea how… it seems to me that I could reuse some of the images I used there… confusing!
